New research article on opportunities and barriers for artificial intelligence in the public sector

The research article is part of the REPAI project (Responsible AI for Value Creation), and involves several researchers from the ADD project.

In a new article by Stine Nørgaard Christensen, Professor Jeppe Agger Nielsen, Mette Strange Noesgaard, Kasper Trolle Elmholdt, and Helene Friis Ratner, the opportunities and barriers for implementing artificial intelligence in the public sector are examined.

With a particular focus on elderly care, the article highlights the many dilemmas that the introduction of AI in the public sector can entail and identifies nine key barriers, including data quality, legal authority, and technological understanding within the public sector.

The analysis reveals that competence levels, data quality, and scaling challenges, combined with ethical and legal aspects, are perceived as particularly inhibiting for the implementation and dissemination of AI. The study provides new insights into why AI technologies often face challenges when applied in practice.
