“Given how critical digital services and software are to the functioning of society, it is thought-provoking that Europe’s digital infrastructure is entirely dominated by American providers. The EU Commission wants to build ‘digital sovereignty’, but how do you break the American monopoly?” writes journalist Peter Hesseldahl in the weekly Mandag Morgen.

In the short term, it seems difficult, but in the long term, it may be possible—if, as a continent, we ramp up investment in digital alternatives. But even if we can, the question remains: should we?
