Building on research in the Velux-funded project AlterEcos – Exploring Alternatives to Currently Dominant Forms of Economic Organizing, Sara Dahlman, Ib T. Gulbrandsen and Sine N. Just have published an article in Big Data & Society.

Here, the ADD PI and her co-authors show how organizations and algorithms mutually shape each other, concluding that “the organization increasingly takes shape from the algorithm and accepts that shape rather than continuing to develop the potential of the algorithm as organizational figuration.” That is, algorithmic modes of action tend to extend beyond specific tasks to (re-)define organizational rationalities and realities.
